Head & Shoulder: Winter Time Skin Woes X Inbox X Reply | Ying Lee to me show details 3:33 PM (5 hours ago) Hi there, Hope all is well! With the cold weather in full force (except for today), I wanted to send through information from head & shoulders’ dermatologist, Dr. Lefkowicz, regarding a common skin/scalp issue that people face. If you are interested in learning more from Dr. Lefkowicz, please let me know and I’ll be more than happy to arrange a call. As always, please let me know if there are any questions and have a wonderful holiday if we don’t connect! Best, Ying cid:image001.jpg@01CB8A54.BF943C00 It’s that time of year when things begin to change. We may feel a little more itchy than usual or see some white/dry areas. We figure it’s just that time of year and we never really try to understand what is going on. In order to get our skin back to normal, it’s important to know the facts. head & shoulders Celebrity Dermatologist Dr. Lefkowicz helps people with their skin issues every day and has shared her expertise with us to shed some light on the changes our skin goes through. • Like a cake, skin is made of many layers with one layer on the outside (like frosting) that acts as a shield, called the stratum corneum. When it is fully intact, the outer layer protects the lower layers from drying out by helping to retain moisture. • The stratum corneum consists of skin cells surrounded with a mixture of natural oils. These natural skin oils are what keep the water inside our bodies and prevent them from escaping through our skin. • It’s when the stratum corneum is not functioning properly that dry skin becomes an issue. If the protective oils in the stratum corneum are lost it can dry out resulting in shrinking and because of the shrinking small cracks occur. When this occurs, the underlying cells and layers of skin are exposed, resulting in the outside and inside of our skin to become dry and irritated. If you want to keep your skin looking and feeling its best from head to toe, it’s important to use products that get to the core of dry skin. For your scalp, use a head & shoulders system such as Dry Scalp shampoo and conditioner which has the soothing essential of almond oil to condition the scalp and help the skin hold onto moisture. If you want to get ahead of winter skin this year let us know and we will arm you with some.
